What each contribution means

SSS social security — 10% employer / 5% employee
The Social Security System covers retirement, disability, sickness, maternity, unemployment and death benefits. Contributions are based on the monthly salary credit, which is capped at PHP 35,000, and the employer also pays a small Employees' Compensation premium and the mandatory provident fund portion above PHP 20,000.
PhilHealth — 5% split equally
The national health insurance premium is 5% of monthly basic pay, shared 2.5% by the employer and 2.5% by the employee, with a salary floor of PHP 10,000 and a ceiling of PHP 100,000.
Pag-IBIG Fund — 2% employer / 2% employee
The Home Development Mutual Fund provides housing loans and a savings benefit. Contributions are computed on monthly compensation capped at PHP 10,000, so the usual maximum is PHP 200 from each side; employees may contribute more voluntarily.
BIR withholding tax — 0% to 35%
Compensation income up to PHP 250,000 per year is tax-exempt, with graduated rates of 15% to 35% above that. Taxable income is gross pay less mandatory SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG contributions. The 13th month pay and other benefits are tax-exempt up to PHP 90,000 per year and are not included in this estimate.
